South Jordan Boy Wakes up to Flames in His Bedroom

NO ONE WAS HURT -- BUT A SOUTH JORDAN FAMILY OF FOUR NOW HAS NO PLACE TO LIVE -- AFTER FIRE CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THEIR HOUSE, JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT, TUESDAY MORNING.

FIRE BATTALION CHIEF REED THOMPSON SAYS, THE BLAZE APPARENTLY STARTED IN A BASEMENT UTILITY ROOM... AND SPREAD INTO A BOY'S ADJACENT BEDROOM.

THE BOY ALERTED HIS MOTHER, AND THE TWO BRIEFLY ATTEMPTED TO SUPPRESS THE FIRE THEMSELVES, BEFORE GATHERING TWO OTHER CHILDREN AND EVACUATING.

FIRE OFFICIALS ESTIMATE DAMAGE AT ABOUT $100,000.

THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE -- NEAR 95TH SOUTH, 39TH WEST -- IS STILL BEING INVESTIGATED.
