New Jordan School District Boundaries Draw Strong Reactions

IN THE WAKE OF THAT FAILED $495,000,000 PROPERTY TAX BOND LAST FALL, THE JORDAN SCHOOL BOARD HAS APPROVED MAJOR BOUNDARY CHANGES, FOR 14 ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.

FOLLOWING SIX WEEKS OF DEBATE, THE BOARD UNVEILED ITS NEW MAP, AT ITS MEETING TUESDAY NIGHT.

SOME PARENTS LOVE IT...WHILE OTHERS HATE IT.

IN SOME CASES, THE CHANGES WILL FORCE KIDS TO ATTEND SCHOOLS, TWICE AS FAR FROM THEIR HOMES.

THE NEW PLAN ALSO REQUIRES MORE DISTANT BUSSING...AND ADDITIONAL YEAR-ROUND SCHOOLS.

BUT BOARD MEMBERS SAY THE CHANGES ARE NECESSARY, BECAUSE ENROLLMENT GROWTH CONTINUES.
