Neighbors Pull Wheelchair-Bound Woman From Her Burning Provo Home

PROVO FIRE OFFICIALS SAY A 54-YEAR-OLD WOMAN REMAINS HOSPITALIZED -- WITH BURNS AND POSSIBLE SMOKE INHALATION -- AFTER A GAS EXPLOSION BLEW THE ROOF OFF HER HOME SUNDAY.

NEIGHBORS PULLED THE WOMAN -- WHO IS WHEELCHAIR-BOUND -- FROM THE HOME, NEAR 12TH EAST, 5TH SOUTH.

OFFICIALS SAY A DOG -- WITH SINGED FUR -- WAS ALSO RESCUED FROM THE HOME.

THE WOMAN HAD SECOND AND THIRD-DEGREE BURNS TO HER ARMS AND BACK... BUT WAS CONSCIOUS WHEN EMERGENCY CREWS ARRIVED.

THE CAUSE OF THE EXPLOSION HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED.

THE WOMAN TOLD RESCUERS SHE WAS COOKING -- WITH HER GAS OVEN -- AND WAS HAVING TROUBLE WITH IT, BEFORE THE EXPLOSION.
