Senator Hatch Supports Civil Union Position That Violates the Utah Constitution

Utah's senior senator is advocating the national recognition of civil unions -- for same-sex couples -- even though our Utah constitution forbids it.

Senator Orrin Hatch says the federal government should recognize the unions, to protect the rights of gay couples.

However, he also believes individual states should continue to be allowed to decide whether they will legalize gay marriages.

Despite his position, Senator Hatch has not drafted legislation regarding civil unions.
